Breackthrough Action Project

Breakthrough ACTION Malawi – Child Early Forced Marriage (CEFM) is a 2years USAID funded project. Its goal is to sparkle a social movement that prevents and stops child marriages in Machinga and Chikwawa districts. The project works with adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), adolescent boys and young men(ABYM), caregivers, and the community at large to ensure wider community involvement, create community ownership and an enabling environment for the desired direction of change.

Problem statement

Increasing incidences of child marriages and teen pregnancies among adolescent girls in Chikwawa and Machinga districts due to negative social norms and practices that negatively affect girls.

Impact

The project has built capacities and improved agency of 200 adolescent girls and young women in gender, child marriage, gender based violence and advocacy and lobbying. Through the use of girls camps and transformative leadership trainings. There has been improved access to SRHR services and information by Adolescent girls and young women. The use of community awareness campaigns facilitated the linkage of adolescent girls and young women to SRHR and other outward services.

Beneficiary Description

The project targets 200 adolescent girls and young women aged between 10-24 years in Machinga and Chikwawa districts.

I was unable to stand in front of people in my community, but because of the empowerment session that I have received am able to conduct awarness meetings addressing my community the effects of child marriage Belita sumson ( Chikwawa)
