Mentorship & Safe Spaces
Trusted spaces where 20–30 girls meet weekly with a trained mentor to learn, share and speak up.
Safe spaces are trusted, friendly places where girls and young women meet to share, learn and energise each other. Each has 20–30 members and is set up and led by a trained girl mentor, with mentors and mentees drawn from the local community so that the most vulnerable girls, including girls with disabilities, are prioritised.
In weekly sessions girls can raise violence, sexual and reproductive health concerns and inequalities in their communities, and report peers who have been forced into child marriage. Safe spaces are embraced by traditional leaders, linked to mother groups and part of the referral pathway for GBV survivors.
A survivor fund lets survivors join village savings and loans and start income activities, which keeps safe spaces running beyond any one project.
