Girl Up Speak Out (GUSO)

Girls Up, Speak Out project is funded by EGMONT trust. It is aims at providing a platform for children to express themselves as they strive to access education and other essential services in a safer and protective environment. The project seeks to empower girls and other vulnerable children to stand up, speak out and engage by building their capacities and skills to mobilizing a youth movement that can resist, prevent and reverse the gender norms that increase their vulnerability to abuse, HIV/AIDS infection.

Outcomes

Girls and other vulnerable children are empowered, stand up, speak out against gender norms that increase their vulnerability to abuse and HIV/AIDS infection. Improved knowledge and skills on advocacy and lobbying evidenced by interface meetings organized by children to lead, voice out and demand accountability from duty bearers. Improved self-confidence and esteem among girls through life skills and improved reporting and response in addressing cases of violence.

Beneficiary Description

Children (both girls and boys) aged 10-19 years from low socio-economic background communities. These include orphans, poor children, children survivors of violence, children living with disabilities, children living with HIV/AIDS.

After the mother group and teachers talked e through decision making and self-esteem session while I was at home after conceiving, it built confidence in me and courage to go back to school and now my academic performance has improved Tadala Mnenula - Mpapa primary school
