Our story
Women-led, girl-centred, rooted in Malawi
GENET is a feminist, local women-led organisation working with girls and young women, their networks and communities to advance and promote their rights to autonomy, choice, empowerment and meaningful engagement.
We are committed to eliminating gender inequalities and promoting economic and climate justice for girls and women in Malawi. We amplify the voices of girls and young women and empower them to be leaders of change in their own lives, their families and their communities.
GENET connects girls' and young women's voices and experiences to national, regional and international networks, and brings global best practice to communities through strategic partnerships on girls' issues.

Our approach
How we work
Five principles shape every programme and project.
Girl-centred
We listen to girls, design with girls and evaluate with girls. Girls are in the driving seat as change agents, in safe spaces where mentorship and peer learning build their skills, agency and voice.
Sports for development
Girls who play sport do better in school and gain confidence and self-esteem. GENET uses cycling to keep girls in the game, and in school.
Gender transformative
Women and men are equal. We engage men, boys and community leaders as change agents to transform unequal power, norms and the root causes of inequality.
Survivor-centred
Survivors' rights, safety and wishes come first. We run a toll-free helpline and online counselling, link survivors to services, and support their economic independence through a survivor fund.
Influencing & advocacy
From an intersectional feminist perspective, we work in alliances with community organisations, women's and youth movements and government to change unjust policies, practices and norms.
Where we work
All three regions of Malawi
We work in remote, hard-to-reach areas where girls and young women have the least access to services.
Our projects have reached girls in Blantyre, Chikwawa, Machinga, Mulanje, Phalombe, Dowa, among others.
