Our Approach

Girl-centered

GENET is committed to a girl centered approach to create a more equitable world. We listens to girls, designs with girls and evaluates with girls. Our programming and trainings meet the needs of girls we serve. Girls are actively involved and engaged and are at the driving seat as change agents. The organization strengthens and amplify adolescent girls and young women’s voices by empowering them to be advocates of their own rights.

GENET connects girls and young voices and experiences to national, regional and international networks, and brings global best practices to communities through strategic partnerships in girls’ issues. This is done in girl’s safe spaces which are girl’s protective networks and utilizes mentor-ship sessions and peer learning, where girls gain valuable skills, strengthen their agency and engage their peers, they become leaders who create significant positive and measurable changes in attitudes and behaviour regarding gender equity related factors including child marriage, education, SRH and gender- based violence.

Sports for Development

Sports play a critical role in girls’ development and provide valuable skills to help girls become successful in all facets of life. Girls who play sports are more likely to make better grades, score higher on standardized tests and complete their education. They have higher body confidence and self-esteem. Sports participation also positively affects a girl’s future employment status and earnings potential.

GENET uses cycling sports for girls to give girls an opportunity to participate in sports and physical activity. We are committed to keeping girls in the game.

Survivor-centered

A survivor-centered approach seeks to empower survivors by prioritizing their rights, safety, well-being, needs and wishes.

GENET ensures that survivors have access to appropriate, accessible and good quality services. Following an incident (a traumatic experience, such as sexual assault), a survivor-centred approach gives the survivor control over the decision-making process. This serves to provide space and time for the survivor to express their needs.

GENET has a toll-free help line and provide online psychosocial counselling services and link survivors to services. GENET also support survivor healing by linking them to their social networks and rebuilding their lives.

GENET Support a survivor to rebuild their lives by contributing to survivor fund which supports survivors to be economically independent.

Influencing, Advocacy and Campaigning

Influencing, advocacy and campaigning are essential to challenge and change unjust policies, practices, behaviours and social norms. We consider power from an intersectional feminist perspective. We ensure marginalized voices are heard and are centred in responses to inequalities and injustice. We work with people living in poverty to support and strengthen their ability to demand and defend their rights. We work with community based organizations, women’s and youth movements, and engage with local and national governments. Working together in alliances, we strengthen collective accountability and build public and political support for girls and women participation.
